About Us

Tickhill & District Lions Club was founded in 1978.  We are a group of volunteers, raising money and giving our time to help good causes across Bawtry, Bircotes, Harworth, Loversall, Rossington, Tickhill, Wadworth, Woodfield Plantation Estate and Carr Lodge.  We also donate a small amount each year to national and to international good causes.

All members pay a small annual fee and our President arranges an annual dinner.  These fees and the profit from the dinner cover our insurance and administration costs so that every penny you donate is donated back to serve you.

Meetings

We meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays every month.  Additionally, our Activities and Welfare Committees both meet separately on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays.

The Activities Committee organise fundraising events and the Welfare Committee consider and, where necessary, investigate requests for our assistance. Both Committees present their recommendations to all club members at our Business Meetings on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays for all members to vote.

It’s not all work and no play. We do enjoy each other’s company. Fundraising events are good fun and if there is a fifth Tuesday in a month, we try to arrange a social event.

Local

We mostly support local people and community groups.  Approximately 85% of the money donated to us locally is given back to the local community to support:- Schools, community clubs, youth organisations, hospitals and hospices.

We support other charities and people in great personal need – we never disclose individual details, suffice it to say we take great care to assess all requests and where we can, we provide financial and welfare support. We also support other charities.

We help at local & regional events such as the Lions Fun Day for the disabled and people with special needs. We work with local care homes to help take the elderly and infirm on day trips.

National

Approximately 10% of the money donated to us is given to National Charities and organisations that have a positive impact on our local community such as:-

  • The Marie Curie Foundation
  • The Children’s Cancer Charity
  • The British Heart Foundation
  • The Institute of Cancer Vaccines and Immunotherapy

International (LCIF)

A small contribution can make a massive difference.  Every year we donate approximately 5% of our funds to international charity, usually through Lions Club International Foundation.  Like all Lions clubs, LCIF covers all its own costs so that every penny we (and the other 46,000 Lions Clubs worldwide) donate to LCIF goes to good causes.  Where there is a need, anywhere in the world, LCIF can direct money to a local Lions Club, which like our club, covers all its own costs. That local Lions Club is in the best place to decide how the money can be best used in the community where it is most needed.

LCIF provides comfort and care across eight critical areas:-

VISION – LCIF will help eradicate infectious blindness, reduce avoidable blindness and improve the quality of life for people with blindness or visual impairment.

YOUTH – LCIF will improve access to quality education, health services, social and recreational opportunities and positive development programmes.

DISASTER RELIEF – LCIF will prepare for and respond to, natural disasters to provide short-term relief and long-term recovery of communities worldwide.

HUMANITARIAN CAUSES – LCIF will sponsor and deliver programmes addressing the distinct needs of at-risk and vulnerable populations disproportionately impacted by social and economic factors.

DIABETES – LCIF will respond to this epidemic, helping to prevent this devastating disease through comprehensive health initiatives.

CHILDHOOD CANCER – LCIF will strengthen medical and social services, increasing global life expectancy of children with cancer and enhancing their quality of life.

HUNGER – LCIF will work towards a worldwide in which no one goes hungry by investing in infrastructure and improved transportation systems that increase the capacity of foodbanks and distribution facilities.

ENVIRONMENT – LCIF will protect environmental health, generating long-term positive ecological impact.
